Side Event 1 Speaker

Toby Le

Toby Le (he/him) is a Vietnamese Canadian and was born in Toronto, Canada. Toby was first introduced to global health during his undergraduate studies, where he worked with community leaders in Tanzania and Kenya to engage marginalized communities about the applications of fermented/probiotic foods. Since then, Toby has continued to be involved in global health and firmly believes in using research to collaborate with global communities to address real-life issues. Currently, Toby is a PhD student in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Manitoba, where he works with a community of sex workers in Nairobi, Kenya, to explore HIV risk. Last year, Toby was appointed the Canadian Youth Delegate with the mandate to represent Canadian youth at the 76th World Health Assembly (WHA) and the 60th Pan American Health Organization Directing Council (PAHO-DC). More recently, Toby has been working on a national effort with the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCCID) to consult with stakeholders across Canada on the Pan-Canadian Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance.
